You Got January, Don't Worry

Hi there! I thought you might need some pick-me-uppers to get you through the month in one piece and so I made some for you :) I was supposed to post this on the 15th as a sort of mid-month motivation, but homework kept me preoccupied, so I'm 5 days late. I hope it's still not too late to cheer you on though. The photos aren't mine but the words are some of the things that I tell myself when life gets too much at times. Enjoy!

As over said as it is, the journey of a thousand miles always begins with a single step. That step is often too hard to make because we are overwhelmed by the load that's ahead of us. Don't dwell too much on the load and remember that the best place to start is where you are.

If you're a dreamer like me, you've probably mastered thinking about your dreams in your free time. You may even have your own dream journal (see: Ms. TC Diaries). But let's be honest here, dreaming isn't enough. You have to dedicate time for work. Cultivating and developing your work ethic takes time. Through the course of your toil you may realize that your immediate output is quite far off from the ideal that you've imagined, just go easy on yourself. Remember that some of the greatest minds in history failed to meet their goals on their first try too. Being kind to yourself will allow you to make that second, third and fourth try. The many times you try, the closer you will get to your expected results.

It's going to be rough and you have to make sacrifices. Overtime you will notice that kindness towards yourself won't get as much work done as it used to. To get some work done, you develop systems to increase your efficiency. You get that sense of dopamine rush when they work, I love it when mine do! This rush will keep you wanting to achieve more, even to the point of biting more than what you can chew. You may think that this is the best way to go, but keep in mind that you are not resistant to burnout. Strike that perfect balance of work and play.

Of course, always believe that the capacity to achieve your dreams is already in you. Trust in your talents and abilities, be careful not to get too confident with them, though. Overconfidence can sometimes spell trouble but not to the same extent as doubting does. That right amount of confidence and doubting is a bit tricky to employ. In times of confusion, affirm yourself that

The work that you put in won't always guarantee success. There are a lot of factors that are outside your control. You can still fail. It sounds depressing and uninspiring but it happens. Don't be discouraged when you fail. Just try again. Choose to learn from your mistakes and see them as learning experiences. Get back up, more fabulous than before.

Repeat step 1 and don't forget to be awesome!
